I don’t feel like at 7k you’re taking a lot of risk if there’s no rust damage. I just (over)paid 6k for a 67 C code with no paint and no interior. Surely that makes sound yours like a good deal haha.
Thank you for your insight on the cost. It sounds good to me; it's just so disheartening that it's gone the way it did, I really need to get over how perfect it was previously and just realize it needs work. I'm by no means an automotive expert, and I wish I had more pictures of her current state for you all.

7K is probably not too bad a deal, of course less is better for you as the buyer. One thing to verify before commiting to a deal is that the seller has whatever legal paperwork is required by your state for you to become the next legal owner. If the paperwork is good I would say show up with a truck, trailer and 6K in hundred dollar bills. Time to make a deal. Let us know how it works out. Good luck.
Thankfully the car is only about 15 minutes from where I have my Mustang in storage (crazy how that happens, right?) and the current owner says he'll deliver. I do need to ask him about the title and make sure it's good to go for being signed off, and now that I think about it, during all my searching and conversations and stuff - I think I remember hearing "it was never titled after it was sold", so yeah - maybe the guy we sold it to is still technically the "current" owner... Good question to ask, thanks for the reminder!

It’s early morning here and maybe I’m missing something here but what would be the chances the drivers door has been replaced in the past? I’d ask the owner to send a pic of the VIN tag on the dash to verify in fact it is an H code car. . You never know. The door tag number would work great in a game of Liars Poker
The VIN on the door does match the tag on the dash, I do know that. I verified that when I got to see the Cougar, just didn't take a picture of it. It's the same VIN I registered over a decade ago. She's indeed a plain-jane H-code with A/C.
