What's your Eclipse Plans?

Post by 1967 S Code » 21 Aug 2017, 10:12

My family and I are all set for the Solar Eclipse. We are in the path of totality. We've got our glasses and we're waiting on dark as South Carolina is the last coverage area for the solar path. I can't wait to see this and get some pictures.

I'm just south of St. Louis, so me and the wife are ready with our shades too.

I've been outside doing yardwork. Came in to cool off for a bit but getting ready to head back out. We're supposed to get about 80% coverage at 2:30 eastern time. I might throw on my welding helmet for a brief look.

I used a welding helmet like Mark said he might do, only about 75% maximum here in NJ just a few minutes ago.

What an awesome experience. We had friends over during the Eclipse. Here are some pictures of total blackout.

I set up my camera in my back yard and took a lot of pictures. Unfortunately I had to improvise a solar filter and I don't think I like how most came out. Almost all do not look crisp and focused. But I have documented it anyway. Here are a few.
As the moon was partly over the Sun,
Image
At about the full extend we got this far north. Should be about 92%...
Image

Image
And as the Moon was about to pass the Sun,
Image
This is how I had the camera set up.
Image
I removed a lens from a pair of Solar glasses and attached it to the front of my lens. I on hind sight should have attached it to a section of tag board and then attached that to the lens. The blue tape let in a lit of extra light. All the eclipse pictures I have posted here are cropped a good 50%
Enjoy the pictures.
