Very sad. I enjoyed watching her on TV.

The Sheriff in the county that Ms. Combs passed in has posted the following conclusion on the cause:

"Based on the evidence collected and examined at the scene of the crash and the evidence recovered by the North American Race Team it appears that there was a mechanical failure of the front wheel, most likely caused from striking an object on the desert," Lieutenant Brian Needham said in a press release. "The front wheel failure led to the front wheel assembly collapsing. The front wheel failure occurred at speeds approaching 550 miles per hour."

What a shame, RIP.

I've heard some people criticizing her, saying some pretty unkind things for her decision to chase this record. Stuff about how women aren't as good as men in terms of setting speed records, and even a few comments about putting her pursuit of the record above kids. What a load of garbage. You don't hear people talking about how foolish it was for Malcom Campbell to go off and potentially leave his kids fatherless.

Without knowing Jessi at all, I'd just like to say this: I enjoyed her shows, and she seemed like the sort of person I would want to have as a friend, not just because she was pretty.

We all die. Even if you do everything in your power to remain safe, and live a very healthy life, it's still going to happen to all of us. It sucks that she had to go so soon, but I am glad that she didn't care about the naysayers. She did not go out with a quiet whimper in her safe little bed, having accomplished nothing. Instead, she LIVED her life.

What if none of us tried to do better? What if none of us pursued out hopes and dreams, and tried to go faster than anyone else?

Jessi Combs did. Well done, Jessi, and God bless.
I love Mustangs. They have a ton of great parts for my Cougar!

There are plenty of Women in Landspeed Racing, some up front like Jessi driving, others behind the scenes wrenching and running the show. Don't underestimate them, you may well end up on the short side of the draw.

I've had the pleasure of meeting quite a few, and I've got a couple memento's

Anybody who criticizes anybody's dream that they are chasing is not worthy. The cause of that crash was not driver failure. I wish it never happened and she got the record. Both LSR Mike and Smilodon put it far better then I have. Hero's come from the heart, not the gender.
