XR7-S

The GT-E was only available for a few brief months in 1968. Total production would not have kept the assembly line busy for more than a half day. If you know anything about a GT-E, it is important, and this is the place to share it. The GT-E registry is maintained by Jim Pinkerton.

He owns the prototype GTE that was in the playboy ad.

This GT-E prototype, VIN 8F93W500045, appeared in Cougar magazine ads. This photo is from an advertisement published in the February, 1968 Playboy magazine.

Playboy ran some great car ads back in the '60s. Guess the manufactures thought the readership were prime prospects for their more expensive, performance/luxury models like GT-Es and Shelbys.

I have a really terrific "vintage paper" dealer near me, and I had been looking for a specific issue of Playboy that contained a wonderfully illustration '67 Shelby Mustang ad. This dealer has all the Playboys sealed so I couldn't thumb thru them to find the ad. I finally saw on the SAAC forum which issue it was so I went directly out to this dealer, found that issue and brought it up to the register.

He was ringing me up and I said "finally, I've been looking for this issue for a particular car ad for awhile now" and he said "Yeah right, you want this for the "ads""....

We both burst out laughing!
