Your VIN tells us a few things about the car.
8 = 1968
R = San Jose plant
93 = XR-7
J = 302 4V
521745 = 21,745th Cougar built

The door data plate will tell us the exterior color, interior color and style, transmission, rear axle ratio, build date. It will not tell us what options, like a console, were originally installed. If the car has a buck tag that will tell us some of the original options. A Marti report is the best way to know the options.

Finally got my car back, took a little longer than expected but I'm happy with the results. Some tuning to do because idle used to go down once I put it in gear so idle is to high now. Easy fix
Here's my Buck tag info
65B B 8B O2U 52 5 W

You have my vin and reply was received, thank you

Those are actually the codes from your door data plate. A buck tag is a metal tag that is attached to the front of the radiator support. I'm not sure if your car will have a buck tag being built in San Jose. What your codes tell us is this.

65B - XR-7 hardtop
B - exterior paint color of Black Cherry
8B - Not sure you got this one right as 8B is a blue vinyl interior
02U - date the car was built, July 1968
52 - Sold through the Los Angeles sales dictrict
5 - 3:00 rear axle ratio
W - C4 automatic transmission

Your interior code might be 8D which is dark red vinyl or more likely 6D which is dark red leather and vinyl.

Man you guys are awesome, it was 8D sorry. I'm going to look up that black cherry, sounds nice. Pretty cool that's it's still in Los Angeles county, awesome info, thanks guys and there is nothing on radiator support but I have alerts assumed this car was in an accident sometime in it's life. Still good

Dave, DSO 53-Kansas City would be correct for a Ford, for a Mercury, it would be Oakland. :) John
