On the other hand, by doing so we risk having an uninsured loss on an expensive asset.

I still let my 17 y/o drive the cars, just not without me in the passenger seat.
The car is a Dark Moss Green C code Mustang hardtop with black standard interior/ C4 automatic. We're putting it together with used carpet, bumpers, door handles, etc from the "classic automotive parts repository" located behind my barn. If he puts it in a ditch, I'll paste it back together with Taiwan crap from NPD. I have a small window of opportunity to live this life with him and I'm gunna do it.

Yes 25 and older, my son’s foxbody is insured like that. We only drive to cruise nights and local shows and I let him drive and I am the passenger. Now he is going to be 21 in a few months and going to try to add to his own policy with his daily pickup, then he will be able to go solo.

I had the same problem. I just let him drive the car anyway. He knew it was on him if he wrecked it. (At the time I also had an umbrella policy just in case AHBL)

I'm with Hagerty and have had nothing but positive experiences with them. I've never sent them an appraisal for my classic which saves me anywhere from $150 to $300 each time. All they asked for was some pictures. I did that but I also did one better by sending them the video Don Rush and Andrew from WCCC made when he posted the car for sale on eBay and I bought it back in 2013. Hagerty can easily tell how solid the car is and the quality of the car by watching the video so there's no question on settling on the value to insure the car if there would happen to be a full loss. I like that!
No one under the age of 25 is insured to drive the car and my three children, all under the age of 22, had to sign waiver forms stating they're not insured to drive the car. I'd be on my own if something happened to the car if one of them happened to be driving the car during a mishap.

I guess I stirred them up. They sent me an email asking me to "tune up" my policy:

Dear Mr. Bischoff: We would like to take this opportunity to perform a policy “tune-up”. Please send the following item(s) by February 23, 2018 to bring our records up to date: • The name, date of birth, driver license number and regular use vehicle for each licensed household member and any operators

Don't they have the ability to look this up themselves?

Oh yeah, you're gonna get a "tune up" alright... probably to the tune of an extra $1000 a year!

Well said Ray. Good luck, it sounds like a great project. With my oldest off to college next year, I really see the window closing these days.

, it sounds like a great project. [/quote]

When it needs an exhaust, it's going to get the dual outlet pipes through the sculpted rear valance. No "Gauch Tips" on this one. Does anyone remember Gauch tips?

I've learned subtlety is an old man's game. If your son is anything like mine, Cherry Bombs & side exit exhaust will do just fine in his book.
