Another venue ends

The Columbus Ohio Fall and Spring Ford swap meets have been canceled. :o Don't know the official reason but what started as 5 buildings was only 2 this year. On Saturday the crowds weren't that big and you could park close in.

Too bad, too. These venues are very valuable for at least two reasons I can think of.
1) The old timers with all the good stuff show up cuz they aren't too ebay/computer embracing.
2) It can be the only place to buy large, bulky, heavy items that nobody wants to ship.

Chat on another board stated that nobody wants to volunteer time to help organize and execute the duties needed. That's not hard to believe. The lack of volunteers was stated as the #1 reason this venue "folded". Everyone wants to reap the benefits of the car shows and swap meets but nobody wants to help. How long will the same 10 people that do all the work continue to deliver?

We stopped setting up at swap meets over a decade ago. It was a great way to network and do face to face business but it cost a fortune to travel set up and in the end your biggest benefit was the business cards you handed out not the parts you sold. Craigslist is the 24/7 swap meet now with ebay / forums and offer up close behind. The supply of parts has vastly diminished as well.

Is the Spring meet definitely history? The Fall meet and the Spring meet are put on by two different clubs. The website for the meet in April still displays a flyer with show dates and no mention of cancellation.

It's all about the almighty $. Insurance company has leased the property for storage and made a "can't refuse" offer. Great for the owners, no liability and plenty of cash... Oh well.

One Ford club I'm in has over 90 paid members but every year the same 10 - 15 people show up to run the car show.

We don't fully appreciate what Gavin does for us, here. He's Superman if you ask me.
