ignition coil relocation

#1

Post by Koz » 31 Dec 2017, 12:49

Hello fellow Cougar lovers. I'm new to the forum and claim old and senile to this question. I have a 1968 Cougar 302 4bbl. I just purchased a 570 street avenger Holley carb to replace my old 600cfm Holley. Here's my dilemma. The fuel rail (between bowls) on old carb is located on the upper left (driver) side of carb. The newer 570cfm Holley has fuel rail located ( which I had to purchase line separately) on the lower right (passenger) side of carb.. I'm installing it on a factory 4bbl stock manifold, but run in to this issue.. Where can I relocate the ignition coil that was on the top of right side manifold close to original location so I don't have to extend wires to fender or firewall? Does anyone know of an aftermarket bracket or extension for my stock one to accomplish my goal? Feel free to email me direct with pictures. suggestions, or whatever to put this 65 year old mind at ease. Thanks! forakoz1@gmail.com

If you swap to a '67 engine wiring harness then you can mount the coil in the '67 location as shown here.

Well at least one of the 67 small block locations ;) For others (still illustrates the same location) the picture is of a 66 built during the first half of the year approx

Indeed the photo is of a poorly restored 1966 GT350H 289 but that's the place I would put the coil on your '68 302 if I had that problem.
