Q Code 351 Cobra Jet Cougar Images needed!

#1

Post by xr7g428 » 08 Dec 2017, 09:38

Did you know that there was exactly ONE 1971 Q code Cobra Jet 351C 4V Cougar XR-7 Hardtop produced? It may be the most rare production Cougar ever built.

Rob Kinnan is working on a new book about this great engine and the cars that featured it. And that includes a bunch of Cougars. If you would like to see the 71 - 73 Cougars get more love, this a great opportunity. In particular, if you have images of stock or at least stock appearing Cougars with the Q code that would be very helpful. If you know some one with one of these Q cats, be sure to tell them to look in on this.

I am sure Rob's name is familiar to many of you. He is currently the Brand Manager and Editor of Mustang Monthly. Probably more of you will know him from Hot Rod magazine. He is the real deal. He will represent out cats well.

If you've got something for Rob to see post it here. He will be along shortly to chime in.

Learn something new every day!

I did not know that Cobra Jet options survived beyond the model change of 1973.

Have to think that by 1974 the cobra was de-fanged but did they did make them.

69Hurstsc ... 1971-1973 are a totally different cat from 1974 so would be interested in the reason why you are interested in those years rather than 71/73.

Did not know that, that's a lot.
Thought after 73 biggest they probably got was a 400M.

Per a book I have called "Mercury Cougar, 1967-1987" By Gary Witzenburg the base 74 Cougar weighs in at a hefty 4262 pounds.

We have imagery of cars for those years. The 74's are a little tougher to come by, possibly due to the rarity and undesirability.

Catsrock - Sharing imagery that's to be used in a book sort of defeats the purpose of publishing a book. That's like asking a person who's writing a Barn Finds book if you can see pics of the cars before the book is published. Authors and publishing companies invest a lot of time and effort into offering unique and interesting packages for enthusiasts and fans. Giving away material isn't in their best interest.
Got it, had to ask tho. Always interested in seeing other PhatCats :smoke:
