Re: Belt tensioning gauge

If you look on eBay there are several V belt tension measuring tools in the $30 - $50 range. One of the most common is from Oldsmobile dealerships. V belts don't know if they are on a Mercury or an Olds so it won't matter.

I've also never used one or seen a need.

Re: GTE for sale on eBay

I looked at the car 10 years ago at Carlisle. I don't know anything except the interior and outside looked nice. Suggest that you talk to Mike to hear more. That is a cool car! It looks as straightforward as the ad. Royce: did you check it for signs of rust? Speaking of rust - It has my rust lust go...

Re: GTE for sale on eBay

I've seen the car. Mostly original paint and interior. He rebuilt the numbers matching drivetrain. I suggest anyone with an interest call him to discuss. He's not much of an internet guy.

Re: Mecum Red GTE Engine Rebuild

Those same pistons were used in all 427 powered Ford / Shelby / Mercury automobiles from 1963 - 68 including the GT-E side oilers. Robert have you verified the pistons in your short block as 68 parts ? They look a lot like pistons used in early 427's with what's called Knorbs (the raised section on ...

Re: tips on changing spark plugs, 390, 4 speed & Calif Smog all intact

No need to remove the smog tubes. All good info., but no one has mentioned smog tubes, the best way I have found is to number the spark plug wires and remove them from the dist. and lay them back over the shock tower, remove valve cover to help get to the smog tubes to loosen the nuts and remove the...

Re: tips on changing spark plugs, 390, 4 speed & Calif Smog all intact

A 3/8" breaker bar with an ordinary (no swivel needed) socket is used to loosen the plugs. You can reach below the master cylinder to get to #7 and #8. GT500 owners have a much harder time because of the tall aluminum valve covers. Thankfully we don't have those! It's not that hard really. I find sw...

Re: 390 fuel pump to carb steel line

Or you could simply buy the correct fitting: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Brass-Fittings-Inverted-Flare-Connector-Male-Pipe-1-4-Tube-OD-5-16-QTY-5/152137096143?hash=item236c13dbcf:g:7JEAAOxyYTRSVa2X:rk:10:pf:0 Some aftermarket fuel pumps use a 1/8" pipe thread so you would then need one of these: https:...
