Run a jumper wire from the battery + side to the coil + side. This the same as having the key ON.
If it starts you will have to remove the jumper wire from the battery to shut it down.
Make sure to keep everything clear of the fan and other rotating goodies.

For future reference: If the XR7 tach fails, you will still have 'fire' while cranking. The failed tachometer only effects the primary circuit when the ignition switch is in the ON position. During start the 'I' post on the started solenoid powers the coil, bypassing the tach. Also, the engine will ...

After years of messing with Edelbrock, Demon and Holly carbs I finally installed a Summit M2008 series carb. Imagine if Holley and Autolite had a baby - the best features of both in one carb. Try Schreibers on Rt 107 in Fremont. He has a great reputation among 'old car' guys in the area. We we going to take Dad's '66 Mustang there for touch-up and repaint, but he decided it really didn't need it.
