Re: Transmission noise

Thanks for the feedback so far. Ok, so either way I am looking at dropping my first transmission to see what's going on. That opens up the whole "while I have the trans out" can of worms... Should I plan on a complete rebuild or just do the faulty bearing? Plan on doing the clutch too or do that at ...

Transmission noise

4-speed is making this noise. Is what I have read that this can only be the input bearing true? Re: Differential oil change - pulling axles

Catlover - yep... that's the can of worms I don't want to get into at the moment. As of now, things are "not broken" so I'd rather not get into all that until time and money permit a rear end rebuild. Mike - that does sound fun and messy :) The quick lube may be my best option just for the oil chang...

Differential oil change - pulling axles

So to my surprise, our old differentials don't have covers to facilitate inspection and oil changes!! I have to pull the center section to change the oil. In order to do that I have to pull the rear axles. I'm worried I'll open up a can of worms and have to chase down expensive other repairs, all ju...

Re: Gear oils - trans and diff

From what I was able to discern from "the internet"... GL-4 and GL-5 are not compatible. In other words GL-5 doesn't cover GL-4 as well. So, I would say no-go. But me being to OP I obviously can not be relied upon :)
