Re: Read my spark plugs

351w. I don’t think the covers are leaking. At least nothing apparent.

Read my spark plugs

Hi all - these old plugs tell you anything I should be aware of? Is the oil on the threads normal?

Thanks for any feedback!

Re: flash rust prevention

Good idea to do another wider baking soda rinse.

Is there such a thing as a clear primer? black primer would be fine in the bay, but would look bad on the hood underside. Thanks!

flash rust prevention

Hi - my voltage regulator went on me and the battery was cooking. Ended up with acid in engine bay and underneath the hood. I got all that off but of course the paint was removed to in those spots. The bare metal is flash rusting. I won't be detailing the engine bay anytime soon (ever?), so is there...

Solid or Hydraulic lifters in stock 351?

Tried searching several locations with no consistent answers. Did the 1969 351 M-codes have solid lifters? I have valve train noise to track down. Need to know if rocker arms should have lash or not. Thanks!

Re: Engine cleaning

Just looking to clean it up, not a full detail/restoration. Looking to get it clean so not as grimy to work on and can see if new leaks develop as I drive this much more often than it has in the recent past.

Yep, too many choice on cleaners. Hoping someone can recommend based on experience.

Engine cleaning

Lots of conflicting information "out there" on how to clean the engine and bay so I figure ask you all for specific Cougar practices. I have a good amount or dirty and grime to clean off. Is it safe to use a garden hose spray if I cover the carb and alternator? What about other electrical components...

Looks like those are vinyl stick-on pinstripes? If so, then they're not original.
Were original stripes painted? Or are you saying that “sick-on” are after market?

Re: Original Paint?? - touch ups

:)
Sweet! That's a free pass to not worry about messing up your paint ;-)
Don't know why I did not think of this before but John Benoit previously owned this car and confirmed that it did have a repaint prior to his ownership. So that gives me some more freedom. Will still have the...
