Ok. The vacuum comes FROM the carb TO the distributor. If you unhook the line at the carb your tube will have no vacuum but you will hear a sucking sound at the carb. If you unhook the tube at the distributor you will vacuum at the end of the tube. Personally I would use a vacuum source at the mani...

Have you checked to make sure that it is not in the metal line a little further toward the front from the rear connector.

The carb has a ported vacuum port where there is no vac. felt at idle, but upon acceleration it supplies vac. to dist.

There is no easy way to repair a rusted out cowl, if you are lucky you might be able to use a top-hat repair kit if the leak is around the air intake for the heater, but you have to remove heater so you can see. For those of you who are familiar with our cars that have C6 trans, can the support from a 351C FMX (which looks like the C6) be used with out problems? Or what is the difference.

Vacuum for the distributor comes out of the carb... when I detach it from the distributed nothing really changes. Timing is advanced the same amount. I put the vacuum gauge on the line from the card to the distributor and there is no vacuum at idle but it goes up when I rev the engine. When I read ...

I agree with 70XR7Tom, fuel level to low in carb.
edit, where are you getting the vacuum for the dist advance, carb. or manifold?
