Re: 71-73 4spd cars

My Top Loader is out of one of those 1220. Unfortunately the car was crushed long ago. I believe it was a 71 351C 4V car. There was a '71 429 4-speed convertible that a guy used to show up with at the drag strip in Great Bend, KS. I was thinking that was 1 of 3 or something along those lines. Cair ...

Re: '71 XR7 Freeze Plug?

I beleive the manual calls to remove the glove box liner and to drop the heater box - you can also pull the whole dash - usually you can pull the dash in about 1-1.5 hours -

Re: New Cat from Germany!

Last summer I spent time in Miessen, Dresdin, and Berlin and Pholand. It is funny how you do see popular collector vehicles like Mustangs or Camaros, both new and old, but then you see an 80s Chevy Caprice station wagon or a 70s Plymouth Volare 4 dr. Being used as daily transportation. There are man...

Re: New Cat from Germany!

Melvyn, Welcome to the forum and good to see your progress on your car. Restoring a Cougar is a Labor of love and doing so in Germany is that much more difficult. I have visited Germany and find it interesting to see the american cars there, But I have yet to see a Cougar there. I know that there ar...

Re: New 71 Cougar 429 CJ Owner

Congrats on purchasing Chris' car and welcome to the list. Chris I a very close friend and I got to know his car quite well, even got to drive it a couple of times. He actually referred to my car as a "small block" 429CJ LOL. If there is any way that I can be of assistance to you let me know. Mitch ...

Re: 1971 CJ Convertible Question

I recall that there was at least one convertible with AC built as a development vehicle. I can't find it now, but if I do I will post some details. Yes there is a write up in "Road Test" Magazine 10/70 on this car. I have only seen a black and white reprint of this article. I beleive that "Popular ...

Re: 1971 CJ Convertible Question

To be more correct a/c would have required larger "g" series tires to meet the weight requirements, which suffered from a wheel clearance issue resulting in a wheelhouse redesign. Hence it was easier to limit a/c availability on a "anticipatedd low production car". The interesting fact is that weig...

Re: 1971 XR7 eight track

The 71 used an AM-8Track - It is a 1 year only radio, the 71's had "Cougar" on the 8Track door, and the wattage was different from the 72-3 radio, The Harness plugs are also different. http://www.429mustangcougarinfo.50megs.com/cougrad4.jpg Note: the 8Track equiped cars use a different bezel. & the ...

Re: Caribbean Blue!!!

Always liked that color - my parents had a 68 Montery 4dr ht that was that color, two tone with a white painted roof - a pretty combo. When I was first looking for a vintage cougar - I looked at a X code XR7 that was the same color with a white vinyl roof!
