DBO, I don't have my 69 schematic here at work but a couple of things come to mind. There is a ground strap that goes to the cluster and gets screwed to the frame close to where the cluster is. You may want to check that. The next thing is that there is a prove out that should light up those warning...

Mike, you can disconnect the speedo cable at the tranny and give yourself some slack in the cable to get it hooked into the speedometer. Yes you got to get the square peg into the square hole correctly. Mine doesn't have the clip any more but stays in place just fine.
