Re: Steering wheel restoration

Jeff you must be reading my good wife's mind and she knows her cars, she's a Michigan girl from the auto industry. She said almost the same as you. I have 2 cans of the original Dark Red coming so I will be patient and wait. Thanks for that Bill Sounds like your wife has good taste. Keep listening ...

Re: Steering wheel restoration

Great advice Al would you know if the 68 Standard Cougar ever had black steering wheels? Sure they did...when the interior was black. I'd be careful about getting too bold with such a focal point. Having a black steering wheel with everything else dark red may just end up looking like you put the w...

Re: Eliminators on the Market (November 2018)

Are the shock tower braces supposed to be gray? There continues to be some debate on this subject but in 1970, slop gray was known to be used on some under hood components like the shock tower braces, the hood latch support brace and the vertical pieces holding up the brace. Slop grey varies from a...

Re: 1968 XR7G 36x48" Mercury Dealer Showroom poster reprints for sale

This is one of those times where I have to put on my man pants and tell my wife where it will be prominently displayed in our home and not ask "if". I will let you know how that goes, ! That's funny. Let me know if you need advice on convincing your wife. My older reproduction of this pos...

Re: No gas cap

Both my Mustang and my F150 have that style of filler. I love not having to remove and replace a gas cap. I've never been worried about fuel theft but I don't think it's any easier with this new system.

Re: '67 Cougar Resto-Mod

I wouldn't consider dipping any unibody car. Given your location I would guess that rust is not an issue or a great one Didn't they dip Cougar 1? I'm sure Jim P may chime in here but yes, Jim and John B brought Cougar 1 back up to Canada after it was stripped to be dipped. That was done around 1995...

Re: What factory build mistakes have you seen on Cougars?

I had a 69 Standard hard top that had 2 locations in the trunk for the spair tire J hook to be held in place. One it the correct location for a hard top under the package tray and one where a convertible would have one on edge of the right hand drop off. That one had had the hoop cut off. Are you s...

Re: newbie question on what year to buy

Gary has created a great synopsis which I generally agree with. One minor correction to the engine options though. The 390 was only offered in 67, 68 and 69. None of the engine options were available all 4 years.

Edit: I see Randy and I were typing at the same time regarding 390 availability.

Re: '67 or '68 with manual trans

You'll get the best leads if you are more specific in your request. If green and saddle isn't your thing, say that. List the colors, engines and options you must have or won't consider and we can be much more helpful. Generic requests are hard to fulfill.
