Re: No ignition on cylinder 4 and 7

I have checked the rockers, all values opening and closing in the correct 302 firing order. Checked the distributor, cap, and the leads and plugs on both 4 and 7 and and getting good spark on both. Reset the TDC and timing to best run, and still no change to the idle if I pull plug 4 or 7. No vacuum...

Re: No ignition on cylinder 4 and 7

I will check those things, thanks. How would I know if the distributor is one tooth off ? The distributor rotor is aligned with the No.1 distributor cap terminal at TDC, but to be honest TDC seems to get quite a wide range. I am determining TDC with a draw in the No. 1 plug hole. Is there a smarter/...

Re: No ignition on cylinder 4 and 7

No joy. The 302 firing order barely starts the car and can't maintain an idle. I've put it back to 351. The prior owner did do some work on the engine, new rockers, and could well have changed the cam. Is it possible for the 4&7 to only fire at high revs when the vacuum advance activates ? It seems ...

Re: No ignition on cylinder 4 and 7

I had the vehicle checked on a Dyno some time ago and it came back from the shop with the 351 order configured and marked on the distributor cap. So I just followed that. I will try the 289/302 order and report back . Thanks

No ignition on cylinder 4 and 7

I have a 68, 302 which appears to be misfiring on cylinders 4 & 7 and I am stumped. Diagnostics thus far : 1. I noticed a rough idle, so pulled each plug lead from the distributor in sequence. 4 and 7 made no difference to the idle. 2. Firing order is for a 351. The VIN number suggests its a 302, bu...

Idling Stabiliser Problems

I have a '68 XR7, 289 with a edelbrock performer carb. I cannot maintain a constant idle as I shift from neutral to drive, or if I put the lights on. As a result I need to set the idle screw high to avoid stalling, which results in reving too high in park or neutral. What type of idle stabilliser op...

Reassembling a power steering pump core

I am in search of an expanded view of a power steering pump core. I took the core apart to clean, and now cannot get the parts back in the same place/order. There appears to be a number of ways the pump parts can reassemble, but if incorrect, the unit doesn't pump. Any ideas would be appreciated And...

Re: 1970 Cougar Exterior Restoration Thread

Steve, this is seriously impressive stuff. wow. Bit of a dumb question I'm afraid, in looking through your story I saw a photo of the blue Autolite Unit. What does this do ? I have one on my '68 but I have no idea what it does and I don't seem any difference if I disconnect the multipin connector.
