Heavy duty repo hood hinges excellent piece

#1

Post by 7TXR7 » 24 Jul 2017, 23:27

I recently replaced my original leaky brake booster and took the hood off to do it.

While I was at it I replaced the hinges with the heavy duty repos that Don sells at WCCC and I can confirm they are way better than originals. Hood doesn't wobble at all when open and no more having to push down the passenger side corner.

My $.02 in case anyone was thinking about them...

How did you find re-aligning the hood? I found it fairly difficult and still not 100%. PITA

been looking at these too, I have the hood off already so its a good time to do it if I am going to, however my orginal hinges are in decent shape and they opened and closed the hood just fine before pulling it apart

If you want the new hinges, sell the old one to help funding, should bring $30-40

Hood alignment went well, my passenger hinge did have some play in it and would always sit a bit high when I closed the hood. I always had to give it a little push to get it level with fender and cowl. New hinges sit perfect and hood seems to close smoother. Like I said up top, there is way less side to side wiggle (when hood is up) so hinges are much sturdier.

These hinges are great! Massive improvement over stock.

A couple things I've found, I couldn't get the hinge low enough to get the hood level with the fender, I figured out that with the thicker material the captured washer on the front bolt was preventing the hinge from going down to the bottom of the slot. So I filed the washer flat on one side and not the hood goes down perfectly flush. The other issue was I could not get the hood far enough back to close the gap to the cowl enough. I elongated the slots in the hinge and not the hood fits better than stock.
