What is wrong with the pictures

#1

Post by higgins_online » 09 Oct 2018, 10:20

I found THE Cougar I was looking for in .....
the Netherlands.
No problem for me because I am from Germany.

Now I need a little bit of help to find things that are "not normal" to the car.
I know a few things about 1967 Cougars but not as much as many of you do.

What I saw so far:
Missing running cat on Eyelid Door.
Front bumper misaligned
Crack in steering wheel
Aftermarket A/C and Aircleaner and so on.

Just minor things. But I am not shure about the engine bay. I'd like to bring the car as close to stock as possible (keeping the A/C). And that can get costy pretty easy.
So if you find something that jumps directly into your eyes please let me know.
P.S. VIN is 7F93S605687 DSO is A1 (Canada)

Factory XR-7 390GT 4 speed is a well optioned and rare Cougar and a great, classic color combo.

One thing I noticed is the non-stock radiator.

The air cleaner on it looks to me to be from a 66/67 Fairlane or Comet.

Not sure what "not normal" might be but a few observations from how it was originally would include IMHO Don't see that the claim is being made that the car is untouched or all original so take the following as you wish

Considering where the car has likely spent its life good chance there is possible rust damage or rust repair to the body co the car. This would be my first and major concern. Much of the rest is bolt on and things that can be corrected fairly easy

Alternator has been replaced. Also seems that its been converted to single sire

Air conditioning compressor has been replaced with an aftermarket as well as allot of the mounting hardware and brackets. Lines attaching to the pump are different from factory also

Handful of extra aftermarket wiring going on especially on the passenger side of the engine compartment and back towards the firewall. Not sure it its an alarm system, sound system or something else

Non factory carburetor. With this it appears the new carb does not have a filter on it so they replaced the metal fuel like with a rubber one and added a aftermarket fuel filter.

Some one has had the front spring covers off - not a big deal. Replaced at least one of the passenger side shock mount bolts. Likely just from some repair or suspension replacement at sometime in the past

Aftermarket coil

Radiator replaced with an aftermarket. Don't know if the radiator shroud is a reproduction or an aftermarket. Hose clamps are aftermarket but a common "improvement" in many peoples mind

Fair number of things painted black that were not originally and bare steel items that were originally black that have been replaced and are not longer painted like they were originally0

Enough for now - hope it helps

Thanks for all your help!

I know it is a 51 year old car and that the pictures don't show everything.
I just wanted to be sure that I don't miss something very costy or hard to fix.

Then focus on the unibody damage and rust possibilities as well as the expensive parts

Looks like a nice car from the pictures but the lack of wheel trim could mean lots of filler around the fenders and quarter panels.

Any pictures from under it?

Have a good look at the floor pans, torque boxes and check for filler around the wheel openings and the bottom of the doors. Lift up the trunk carpet/Vinyl mat and look down into the area behind the wheels for signs of filler. While in the trunk look up under the rear window package tray and look for signs of rust and poorly done repairs.
Are there any close up pictures of the roof especially around the bottom corners of the rear windows and along the drip rails above the doors? With the vinyl tops these areas can have a lot of rust which the newer vinyl top will cover after it is replaced.

Good luck and keep us posted.
