Question on export braces

#1

Post by bsbeck » 07 Oct 2018, 08:59

I was just looking at a picture of what I thought was a pretty original 70 Cougar and I noticed it had a one piece engine export brace. My 70 Eliminator has two separate pieces. I'm guessing that other car had an aftermarket piece or is there a factory one piece????

My understanding is that they came with the two piece unless designated for export but the one piece was sold over the counter at dealerships. My 68 has a one piece export brace with a Ford parts sticker still stuck to the middle. No idea when it was installed.

Anybody ever seen a 70 with a one piece? I'll get a pic of the one I was talking about and post it here.

Shelby's, boss 9s, and cars for export had the 1 piece export brace. The original braces the ribs are all the same height, with the later Ford braces the two outside ribs are slightly higher (like the pics in post 4). They reproduce a concourse style brace now but seems kinda light compared to original. Cars with factory braces also had reinforced shock tower caps where the shocks bolted.
