In front of shock towe measurement?

#1

Post by woodsnake » 20 Aug 2018, 19:25

So, I bought the export brace, and Monte Carlo bar for my 69 Cougar from Mustangs Unlimited. The export brace went on no problem.
The Monte Carlo bar, that they sent first was five shades of no way...The length, and angles were wrong. I took pictures, and sent them to MU. They sent me another bar no problem.
So- 2nd bar install, and it is now short, between the shock towers. So what is the actual measurement supposed to be??? This would be my third install, I'm aware that the shock towers "usually" flex towards the inboard.
Thoughts?

One source said 39 3/4 inches. Haven't installed one in mine.

Here's the source, FWIW: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPpqhg0Jtqo

Brian,
I looked at the 1969 shop manual, and it has a diagram of some of the underbody dimensions. From that,
I took some of the measurements and made a best guess estimate that the dimension between the center
lines of the shock towers, should be 33.40 to 33.50"
Keep in mind the monte carlo bar mounts in front of the shock towers so allow for that extra width.
Don't know if this helps you or not.

If it's the same as 67-68, mine measures 39.75.
1968 XR-7 Augusta Green, J-Code, 5 litre, Autolite 6100, 5 spd, convertible with heated seats, cruise control and rear sway bar.

BTW, I think electronic ignition is pointless.
