From an audience size viewpoint you probably made the best decision. Lots of LS swap fans out there, probably far larger than the Cougar market. You did lose all your budget build cred when you showed the donor vehicle. That Suburban with a clean body and running drive-line has to be worth far more ...

It will only light up when the starter is engaged. It is intended to "prove out" the circuit.

Being stuck in the garage puts some big limits on tuning. The only other thing you can do is to verify the mechanical advance curve. You can measure this with your timing light. With that much cam I would bring the idle up by 100 RPM. Are you getting any pre-ignition? Then you need to look for lean surge at cruise. This is at maybe 45 to 50 mph on level ground. What you are looking for is any surge or hunting.
