Re: Boss 302 Eliminator Production

The increase in Boss 302 Mustang production was even more dramatic:

1,628 in '69.
7,013 in '70.

Also, those numbers put into perspective just how rare any Boss-engined Cougar really is.

Re: Addco rear sway bar

Anybody using the Addco 432 rear sway bar in the STOCK location. Looking at it, it looks the most similar to the stock bar. https://www.ebay.com/itm/67-70-Ford-Mustang-Mercury-Cougar-Addco-7-8-Black-Powdercoat-Rear-Sway-Bar-432/263102111275?hash=item3d421b9e2b:g:GegAAOSw0LxZc54V:rk:3:pf:1&frcectupt...

Re: Fe heads

Yes, the later blocks have four holes, although the motor mounts use only three.

Re: close ratio with 3.0 rear?

I got the parts to change mine from the late Tom Watts, of Tom's Differentials. My main goal was replacing the input shaft with something stronger than stock. Not only were Tom's stronger, they were also a modular design, meaning first gear was replaceable, unlike stock where the input shaft and fir...

Re: 14 factory steel wheels

Well no doubt that's a factor. Yet when you consider that only a relatively small percentage of Cougars came with SS wheels, and the stamped ones were also installed on literally millions of Mustangs, Torinos, Comets, etc, etc., shear weight of numbers would suggest they'd be easier to find than the...

Re: close ratio with 3.0 rear?

You've laid out the pros and cons pretty well. The only other thing I can think of is that a W-R will improve snap off the line without raising engine RPM on the highway the way gears will. Back when I was running a toploader behind the 351 4V in my '69, I modified it with a 2.87:1 first gear. (Stoc...

Re: close ratio with 3.0 rear?

What engine? All 4-speeds used behind 428s were close-ratio. They had enough torque that a low first gear was unnecessary. Likewise, a 390 car should work reasonably well with a C-R and 3.00:1s. Even a 351 won't be a total dog with that combination, but either a W-R transmission or low ratio rear ge...

Re: 1970 Mercury Cougar Boss engine stamp

Under the valve cover, unfortunately.
Production Boss 302 heads have casting number C9ZE-6090-A or C (1969) or D0ZE-6090-A or B (1970.)

Re: 1970 Mercury Cougar Boss engine stamp

I have the car listed on this site. There are engine pictures there but not sure if you can see the heads or not clearly. Have sent the question to the owner. Thanks, I found the listing. The pictures show what appear to be Boss 302 heads. (They could also be modified Cleveland heads. Would have to...
